Green beans from Kenya, Morocco, Egypt and Senegal
Where Moorea green beans come from depending on the season, how they are grown and harvested, and how we check them all the way to the shop.
Sunshine, at the right time
Green beans need warmth and light. To offer them fresh all year round, Moorea brings them from countries where they grow in the sun while it is winter in France. The exact origin is always shown on the tray or bag label.
🇰🇪 Kenya
On the equator, Kenya enjoys around twelve hours of sunshine a day all year round. The bean fields are at altitude, 1,500 metres and above, where nights stay cool: the beans grow steadily and are harvested twelve months a year.
🇲🇦 Morocco
Close to France, Morocco grows green beans in a mild, sunny climate, in season. The journey to Rungis is short.
🇪🇬 Egypt
In a hot, dry climate, Egypt grows green beans in season and takes over when demand is high.
🇸🇳 Senegal
During its sunny dry season, Senegal grows fine, even green beans that complete our deliveries.
Picked by hand
Whatever the origin, extra-fine beans are picked young, by hand, every two or three days, taking only pods of the right size. They then go to the packing station, where they are sorted, graded, packed and chilled.
Checks, all the way to Rungis
- Regular laboratory tests, in particular for pesticide residues.
- Official checks by French state inspectors on arrival, with their own tests.
- Inspection in Rungis: every delivery is examined by Moorea inspectors (colour, size, firmness, freshness, temperature), with a quality report for each batch.
- Cold chain: from the packing station to the shop, the beans stay chilled. At home, keep the tray in the fridge, between 4 and 8 °C.
Traceability
The batch number printed on the label lets us trace the grower and the packing date, the shipment and its arrival date, and the test results and inspection report. A question? Write to sav@moorea.fr with the batch number.
